Golfing Around Victoria
Perched on the southeastern tip of Vancouver Island overlooking the straits of Juan de Fuca and Haro, the private Victoria Golf Club has more than 100 proud years of golf tradition. Its spectacular 18-hole course challenges with parkland and seaside holes, each distinctive and rewarding. The 18-hole Cordova Bay Golf Course offers terrific views out over the ocean and Mount Baker in the distance. Four sets of tee-offs on the par-71, 6,700-yard course make it beginner- friendly and challenging for veterans. The adjacent Ridge Course offers nine holes of play, an 18-hole grass putting course, and a short game facility excellent for beginners and scratch golfers honing their craft. Gorge Vale Golf Club is a semi-private facility with an 18-hole, par-72 championship course just minutes from downtown Victoria. Established in 1927, the mature course wends its way over undulating fairways and rock outcroppings. Spread over 143 acres, the layout challenges members and guests with varying elevation changes, a variety of bunkers and strategically-placed water hazards. Royal Colwood Golf Club is a private golf club which was designed by Arthur Vernon Macan in 1913. The course provides a layout that is rated in the top 20 courses in Canada, yet easy to walk, and with four sets of tees. The course is a traditional style parklands championship course set amongst 450 year old Douglas firs and majestic Garry oaks. Uplands Golf Club is a vibrant semi-private club with a 90-year history, renowned for its greens and exceptional course conditions. The 18-hole championship course, par-72 over 6,420 yards, is legendary for its challenge. Located at 3300 Cadboro Bay Road in Victoria. The Olympic View Golf Club is a Golf Digest 4-star rated course with waterfalls, a dozen lakes and views out over the Olympic Mountains of Washington State. The 18-hole championship course, par-72 and 6,600 yards, was the first course in B.C. that Tiger Woods played. The signature 17th hole is framed by a waterfall beyond the green and 417 yards from the tee. It is located 20 minutes west of Victoria in Metchosin at 643 Latoria Road. Glen Meadows Golf & Country Club is a picturesque, 18-hole championship golf course with a full-amenity clubhouse, driving range and CPGA Pro for those wanting lessons. The par-72, 6,859-yard course has four sets of tees to offer a game for every level of golfer. Highland Pacific Golf has quickly become one of the favourites on the Vancouver Island Golf Trail, winding through rolling hills with wide and sweeping fairways, dramatic elevation changes and challenging greens. The 18-hole par-71 championship course, Victoria’s newest, has play over 6,603 yards. There’s a driving range, too, with fully-lit tee line and range for evening practice and lessons. Cedar Hill Golf Course is a municipal golf course with 18-holes of play on its par-72, 5,200-yard layout. The Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa offers a challenging year-round golf experience with panoramic mountain, city and ocean views and surrounded by forest. The resort hosted the Telus World Skins game in 2010 and is the only one in Canada to offer 36 holes of Nicklaus Design golf on either the Mountain or Valley courses.
